FAQ: APPsolute Daily Focus App

FAQ: APPsolute Daily Focus App

General

What is APPsolute Daily Focus?

APPsolute Daily Focus is a personal productivity app for Jira that helps you decide what to work on each day, act on it, and reflect.

It starts with a four-quadrant focus model for triage:

  • Do Now

  • Schedule

  • Delegate

  • Deprioritize

From there you can log your time and updates for the day (Daily Update), review a personal Recap you can share as a standup, and — where your admin enables it — take a quick game break in the Arcade.

It is designed for personal daily focus, not for managing Jira workflows or team processes.

In APPsolute Daily Focus, a work item refers to a Jira issue (such as a task, bug, or story) assigned to you.

How do I access the App after install?

After installing APPsolute Daily Focus:

  1. Log into your Jira instance.

  2. In the left-hand navigation bar, click Apps (you may need to expand the menu).

  3. From the list of apps, select APPsolute Daily Focus.

The app opens on the Dashboard. Depending on what your admin has enabled, you may also see Daily Update, Recap, and Arcade tabs.

Is this a team or personal tool?

APPsolute Daily Focus is a personal productivity tool. Each user sees and manages their own decisions only.

Your triage decisions are never shared with managers or teammates. The only things that appear in Jira are the time and updates you choose to post from Daily Update (see below).

Triage & Decisions

Does triaging a work item change anything in Jira?

No. Triage decisions in APPsolute Daily Focus:

  • Do not change work item status

  • Do not update fields

  • Do not reassign work items

  • Do not add comments

Triaging and Complete are personal decisions only. The one place the app writes to Jira is Daily Update, and only when you choose to log time or post an update — see the Daily Update section below. Jira remains the system of record.

What does “Complete” mean in the app?

Complete is personal, not a Jira completion.

When you mark a work item as Complete:

  • It is hidden from your Daily Focus view

  • It does not resolve or close the Jira work item

  • It does not change the work item status

This is useful when:

  • You’ve finished your part of the work

  • You’ve delegated it

  • You no longer need to track it personally

Completed items are hidden for the rest of the week.

Can I change my decision later?

Yes.

You can:

  • Re-triage a work item at any time

  • Move it between quadrants

  • Mark it Complete if you’re done tracking it

Decisions are meant to be flexible, not permanent.

Daily Update

What is Daily Update?

Daily Update is where you work your Do Now list for the day. For each item you can log time and post an update.

These save straight to the Jira work item — the time as a worklog and the update as a comment, posted under your name. A completion meter shows how many of your Do Now items you have updated today.

Daily Update is optional — you can use the Dashboard for triage without ever logging time or posting updates.

Does the app write to my Jira work items?

Only in Daily Update, and only when you choose to. When you log time or post an update there, the app adds a worklog and/or a comment to the Jira work item as you.

Triage, Complete, and your quadrant decisions never write to Jira.

Can I undo time or a comment I posted?

No — time entries and comments are posted directly to Jira and can’t be undone from this app. To change or remove them, edit the worklog or comment on the Jira work item itself.

Does Daily Update work with Tempo?

Yes. Your site admin can set Daily Update’s time logging to Tempo mode. In Tempo mode, the app does not post a native Jira worklog — instead, each Do Now item shows a “Log time in Tempo” link that opens the work item so you can log time in Tempo with all of its rules applied (required Account, work attributes, period locks, and so on). You still post your update as a comment from Daily Update, and the time you log in Tempo is reflected back in your completion meter and Recap — as long as your site syncs Tempo time to Jira worklogs.

In the default Native mode, Daily Update logs a standard Jira worklog directly. That does not apply Tempo’s required-field rules, so teams that rely on Tempo validation should set Time logging to Tempo (in the app’s admin settings).

Recap

What is the Recap?

The Recap is a personal end-of-day summary, generated on the fly from your Jira activity. It shows what you worked on today, the time you logged, and the updates you posted. Nothing is stored by the app — it is rebuilt each time you open it.

How do I share a standup?

On the Recap you can build a standup with Today and Up next sections, choose which items and notes to include, edit the text, and copy it to paste into Slack, Teams, or wherever your team shares updates.

Gems, Streaks & the Arcade

How do I earn Gems and streaks?

Keep your triage and daily updates current and you’ll earn a Gem for the day and build a streak. Gems are a small in-app reward — they are not AI tokens and have nothing to do with AI usage.

What is the Arcade?

The Arcade lets you spend Gems on a quick, timeboxed game break — you get one of a few small games at random (Backlog Breaker, Focus Snake, or Bug Crusher).

The Arcade is off by default and controlled by your site admin, who sets the session length, the daily limit, and how many Gems a session costs.

Daily Behavior

What happens each day?

Each day:

  • The four quadrants refresh for a new day

  • Newly assigned work items appear in Needs Decision

  • Previously scheduled items may reappear for optional review

  • Completed items remain hidden for about a week

This keeps the app focused on today’s decisions, not historical tracking or reporting. Daily Focus resets at midnight based on your Jira profile’s timezone.

Why do some items reappear even if I worked on them yesterday?

APPsolute Daily Focus assumes:

Daily focus decisions may change as new information becomes available.

Items may reappear if:

  • They were scheduled previously

  • They were not marked Complete

  • They are still assigned to you

You can always mark them Complete again or re-triage them.

How does the app know an item is “finished”?

The app uses a combination of:

  • Your personal Complete action

  • Jira assignment changes

  • Jira resolution/status signals (when available)

If your Jira workflow is non-standard, Complete gives you a manual way to clear items from your view.

Scheduling & Delegation

What happens when I choose “Schedule”?

Schedule means:

“This is important, but not today.”

The app does not enforce how you schedule work.

You may choose to:

  • Set a Jira Due Date

  • Use Start Date

  • Plan work in your team’s tools (Tempo, sprint planning, etc.)

APPsolute Daily Focus helps you decide — you choose how to plan.

What happens when I choose “Delegate”?

Delegate means:

“This needs attention, but not from me.”

The app does not automatically reassign the work item.

You may want to:

  • Reassign the work item in Jira

  • Add a comment clarifying ownership

Once delegated, you can mark the item Complete to clear it from your view.

What does “Deprioritize” mean?

Deprioritize means:

“This does not need my attention right now.”

This does not delete or close the work item.

You may choose to:

  • Resolve or close it in Jira

  • Leave it open but stop tracking it personally

  • Document why it’s no longer relevant

Visibility & Reporting

Can my manager see my Daily Focus decisions?

Your triage decisions (Do Now / Schedule / Delegate / Deprioritize) and Complete are:

  • Private to you

  • Not visible to other users

  • Not exposed in Jira fields or reports

The exception is anything you post from Daily Update: worklogs and comments are normal Jira activity and are visible on the work item to anyone with access to it.

How long are my decisions stored?

Decisions are stored for about a week, using a rolling window based on when you last triaged or completed the item.

If a work item is still assigned to you and unresolved after that time, it may reappear in Needs Decision so nothing important gets lost. This can also happen if a work item is reassigned back to you or reopened in Jira.

Troubleshooting

Why don’t I see Daily Update, Recap, or the Arcade?

These features make up the app’s engagement layer, which your site admin can turn on or off. The Arcade in particular is off by default. If a tab is missing, your admin may not have enabled it.

Why don’t I see all my assigned work items?

The app focuses on:

  • Newly assigned work items

  • Items needing a decision

  • Items you are actively tracking

Issues may not appear if:

  • They were marked Complete recently

  • They are no longer assigned to you

  • They were already triaged and cleared for the week

Something looks wrong — how do I reset?

If something feels off:

  • Re-triage the item

  • Mark it Complete

  • Refresh the page

Because the app is decision-based (not workflow-based), there’s no permanent state to “break.”
